Introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Claire and I am a junior here at the University of Oklahoma. I'm actually from Houston, TX so now I'm trying to get used to this winter cold!!! I'm studying Health and Exercise Science and hope to make it into grad school for a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy. (Fingers crossed!!!)

Coming back from Christmas break I am just trying to get back into the swing of things. For the whole break we were either super busy or super lazy. In the beginning it was nonstop traveling all around Texas for different family events and then ended with a trip to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl. Of course I would be going to the University of Houston's (my dad is the biggest fan) bowl game instead of our own. And, for the last two weeks of break I just hung out with my family watching movies and going on walks with our dog Sophie! Well, more like my dog but they grew attached. She's a mini Australian shepherd and I've had her ever since I turned 16!

When I am not with my family and either here at school or just out of the house I like to go on as many adventures as possible. I always find myself on some new road trip or last minute decision activity all the time. The adventures could be just going downtown and trying a new ice cream shop or randomly driving out of town to go camping for the weekend. I never really know what next thing I will do ever. I like to listen to pretty much any kind of music as long as it fits my mood that day. I love movies and TV shows but make sure that I don't become addicted. When I watched the TV series Dexter or even Parks and Recreation, it was unhealthy how addicted I was and how many episodes I would watch a day. I love going to the movie theater but never want to pay for the ticket! They are just so expensive these days! Some other facts about me are that I love to swim, I like to read (for example: I've read all the Game of Thrones books), my favorite color is blue, "I Don't Want to Pray" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is my favorite song, I've never broken a bone, and I thoroughly enjoy a game of dominoes or cards or even just puzzles! Watch out though because I may get competitive during a close game.

  1. Hey,
My name is Ashlie and I am also a junior here at OU. My dad is from Texas and we go down to visit a lot, I was never able to get used to the heat. I grew up in Idaho where it snows nine months out of the year. Here it is just cold and windy. It's great that you like to go on adventures, I like to do the same. There is so many places I want to go and things I want to see. It sounds like you had a great winter break! Good luck with classes this semester.

  2. Hey Claire!! It sounds like we have alot in common! Your dog is adorable, Australian Shepards are my second favorite dog breed (after heelers which I have two of!). I too have a problem with getting addicted to TV shows on Netflix, it has a tendency to interfere with my schoolwork so I try to just watch movies from the Redbox. I am excited to get to know you and all of our classmates this semester! Hope all goes well for you!

  3. Hey Claire, my name is Austin! It's nice to meet you! It's so funny that you mentioned you have an unhealthy addiction to shows on Netflix (Parks and Recreation)! That is one of my all time favorite TV shows and I was obsessed with binge watching it, as well as American Horror Story and Lost! I also really enjoy doing puzzles! I'm currently working on a 1000 piece right now! All of my friends make fun of me because I still work on puzzles all the time.

  4. Oh, what a great picture, Claire! I follow the Fred Jones Art Museum at Twitter, and they've shared some great pictures of that sculpture. It's so cool! And your Sophie is a cutie too! Game of Thrones has been a big inspiration for people in this class in the past: there are so many powerful mythological elements that George Martin has woven together to create his own world and all that drama. I'm sure you'll recognize lots of moments in the stories for this class that will remind you of some incident or character or creature in Game of Thrones. Like... dragons! :-)

  5. Okay first off Sophie is a sweetheart! She sounds absolutely precious! I am a HES minor and know how hard some of those classes are. Fingers are crossed for you as you apply for grad school! I am the same way about movie theaters, I love watching movies but I hate buying tickets, going to the theater, and spending $5 on a bottle of water. Thats why Netflix in my bed is the best thing ever.

  6. Hey Claire, great introduction. I have lived in Norman all my life so luckily I am used to this brutal cold and hopefully youll get used to it by the time you leave, The wind combined with the cold is the WORST. I love your intro and all the pictures, it makes it a lot more interesting to read and makes my blog look even more boring than it is already! I know quite a bit of people from Houston and actually just planned my trip to go down there for the OU/Houston game next weekend. It should be a good game and a fun trip. That's cool about your dog, I actually have a golden retriever who is almost 3 years old and I got him my sophomore year and it was the best decision I have ever made. He is my life and I couldn't imagine my life without him!

  7. Hey Claire! Wow what great photos in your introduction! I have yet to travel to Houston, but have loved San Antonio, San Marcos, and Fort Worth/Dallas! I will definitely have to plan a trip to Houston though! Also your dog Sophie is adorable! I have an Australian Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix and he is a great dog! I am applying to Physical Therapy school next semester so I can understand the stress! Good luck with your application and your semester!

  8. Hi Claire! It sounds like you have a really outgoing and spontaneous personality! Your life sounds really fun and adventurous. Good luck with going to OT school! I'm pre-PA so I know what the process is like. There's no letting up but it will be worth it in the end! I hope you have a really good semester. Just a year left!

  9. Hey Claire, nice to meet you! Awe your dog Sophie is so cute, I hung out with my dog a lot over break a lot too. I have the same problem with often becoming addicted to TV shows also, I think I watched all the Game of Thrones episodes in one week. Goodluck on the rest of the semester and getting into grad school for Occupational Therapy!

  10. Hey, your dog Sophie is adorable!! I can see why other people would get attached to her.
I am jealous that you seem to have so many spontaneous adventures. I often with I could be more like that, but Engineering just keeps me so busy! Maybe I will get a chance once I graduate.
Good luck with grad school, do you know where you want to go? I am personally sticking around for grad school at OU, I've already been accepted.

  11. Hey Claire,

Nice to meet you! You sound like a fun person; I loved what you said about how you never know what you're going to do the next minute. I'm a routine-type person, and I have to have my week scheduled out before it starts or I get stressed out, which makes it hard to be spontaneous! I really admire people like you for that spontaneity, and I'm hoping I can make myself be that way more.

And your dog is adorable! I love dogs, and Australian Shepherds are beautiful.

Hope you're "back in the swing of things," now! Coming back from break always kind of sucks, even if you like your classes.

  12. Hi Claire! I’m a Health and Exercise Science major as well and I’m hoping to attend PA school once I graduate! I think it’s really funny that you ended up going to the University of Houston’s bowl game instead of OU’s! Did you end up having a good time? I also have the same problem as you when it comes to getting addicted to TV shows… I recently finished the New Girl series on Netflix and am looking for my next show to become attached to! I may have to try watching Parks and Rec I’ve heard great things about it!

  13. I literally want to go through this whole class roster to see how many Health and Exercise majors there are! At least 80% of everyone's page I have seen is a Health and Exercise major! I have some family in Houston and visit there often, it can get HOTTTT there forsure. I too love being lazy during my breaks and just relaxing! Your dog looks really precious as well! Good luck in your future.

  14. Another Health and Exercise Science major, I'm in the same boat as you as I am too a HES major! Houston is my favorite place at the moment due to me working for the Men's Basketball team and we are headed there for the Final Four! I just hope Houston treats us good while we are there and we can bring home a championship!

  15. Hey Claire! It was nice reading your introduction and getting to know you a little better. I am also an HES major so I think it is cool you want to do occupational therapy. It is weird how busy winter break can feel when you have to do a ton of family stuff. Then at the same time you do get a good amount of time to relax. I have never been to Houston but from what people say I feel like I need to visit it soon! I look forward to reading some of your stories.

  16. Hi Claire! Your dog is absolutely adorable. Australian Shepards are one of the best dogs in my opinion. I hate the cost of going to the theater too, but I love the experience. I made a deal with my kids about it. We can go to the theater two or three times a year and get popcorn and soda, or we can not get snacks there and go about once a month. And I buy popcorn and soda to have with movies we watch at home. As a result, we can go much more often. I hope you are having a great semester. I look forward to reading your stories.

  17. Hey Claire!
I’m also a junior here at OU and a Texan as well! I think it’s awesome that you like to take road trips and make last minute decisions! I really wish I did more of that. Life’s too short!
Good luck with the rest of your semester and with getting into grad school for occupational therapy in the future!
