Week 3 Reading Diary: Saints and Animals

This week I decided to read the Saints and Animals unit, from The Book of Saints and Friendly Beasts by Abbie Farwell Brown, and really enjoyed reading all about these handful of saints!

Saint Kentigern and the Robin - This story is about a really good student who always wanted to improve and better himself. The other boys at the school become jealous of him and try to get him in trouble on multiple occasions. What they don't realize is that he is blessed by God in a way that none of them expected. This story reminded me of these days with kids bullying others and realizing the importance of them as time goes on.

Saint Blaise and his Beasts - I enjoyed this story because he is a saint who knew from the beginning that he wanted to help all others and all creatures. He tamed a wolf and even cured a kid from choking on bone on his way to prison. Now I know the meaning of the story of why we always prayed to St. Blaise for sore throats!

Saint Comgall and the Mice - This is the ultimate story of the good people suffering from the selfishness of the wealth and overcome it. He used mice to feed the rest of the town! How clever!

The Wanders of Saint Berach - Saint Berach was also a saint of healing and cared for others so deeply. He tamed a wolf and made it love a cow, and he saved a child by growing apples in the snow! He wanted to show people lessons without hurting them or causing them any harm. He was kind of funny too especially with the kids he slightly froze for a bit!
